PYD Trade show setup with crafts for sale.

PYD hosts Trade Shows annually to give Career Readiness students a real-world opportunity to practice entrepreneurial skills learned in the classroom, such as customer interactions, money transactions, and restocking duties.

This year, local coffee shop Well Coffee House offered PYD an opportunity to take the Trade Show to the heart of downtown Boston!

Excitement filled the air as PYD’s Career Readiness students got ready to sell their handmade items at the cafe, which included keychains, coasters, and bookmarks.

“Let’s review how to welcome a customer and how to count change,” said Kristin Sullivan, Career Readiness Coordinator, as she walked the students through a practice interaction.

“I want to greet people at the door!” one student exclaimed, as her and her classmate walked toward the entrance.

After a couple of practice scenarios, the students were ready to welcome the patrons of the coffee shop.

As customers trickled in, the Career Readiness students counted money, assisted with Venmo transactions, restocked, and showcased the items.

One student remarked, “I’ve been looking forward to the Trade Show! It was fun to paint the coasters. I wanted to use my favorite colors, and I hope other people like them too.”

After customers purchased their handmade goods, they had the option of grabbing a Mentor Matcha, an iced matcha latte, created by the Well Coffee House. For every Mentor Matcha purchased, a portion of the proceeds go towards PYD’s mission.

Altogether, the students sold over $100 worth oitems and gained valuable skills along the way!

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the Trade Show, and to the Well Coffee House for creating this wonderful opportunity!
