A sign that says PYD Spring Trade Show is taped to a table.

Last week, Charlestown High School students from PYD’s Career Readiness Program hosted a trade show at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Charlestown. In class, they created a variety of crafts including suncatchers and tote bags and learned entrepreneurial skills as part of the career readiness curriculum. Later, the students put their entrepreneurial skills to work selling the goods they made.

Kristin Sullivan, PYD’s Career Readiness Program Coordinator, prepared students to manage the cash box, restock items, and provided tips on how to greet and interact with customers.

As staff and patients from Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital approached the table, students worked hard speaking with customers, describing the items, counting out change, and more!

Students communicated with each other and with customers to complete each sale. Carlos, one of the students who was a big fan of the flowerpots, enthusiastically described the designs to a Spaulding staff member and convinced them to buy a few!

Exemplifying Career Readiness with professionalism and their interpersonal skills, the students raised over $150 and ran a successful trade show!
